The 3-Day AFCON Break: Murchison Falls Safari Itinerary

Day 1: The Road to the Wilderness (Ziwa Rhino Tracking)

• Morning: Depart from Kampala or Hoima immediately following the morning match or early morning news brief.
• Mid-day: Stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This is the only place in Uganda where you can track southern white rhinos on foot. It’s a thrilling way to stretch your legs and tick off the first of the “Big Five.”
• Afternoon: Enter Murchison Falls National Park via the Kichumbanyobo gate.
• Evening: Enjoy a sundowner drive as you head toward your lodge. Watch the sky turn gold over the savannah with a cold drink in hand, reflecting on the day’s goals—both on the pitch and in the wild.

Day 2: Big Cats & The Mighty Nile

• Morning (6:30 AM): Set out for an early morning game drive on the northern bank. This is prime time for spotting lions, leopards, Rothschild giraffes, and vast herds of elephants. The cool morning air makes the predators more active.
• Afternoon (2:00 PM): Board a boat cruise up the Victoria Nile. You’ll drift past pods of hippos and massive Nile crocodiles. The cruise culminates at the base of the falls, where the world’s longest river forces itself through a 7-meter gap.
• Evening: Relax at the lodge. Many lodges feature satellite TV in the lounge areas, ensuring you can catch the evening AFCON group stage results.

Day 3: The Devil’s Cauldron & The Final Whistle

• Morning: Experience the power of nature with a hike to the Top of the Falls. Stand at the “Devil’s Cauldron” and feel the ground vibrate beneath your feet as the water plunges 43 meters. It’s the ultimate adrenaline rush before heading back.
• Mid-day: Begin your transfer back to Hoima or Kampala.
• Late Afternoon: Arrive back at the stadium or your fan zone in time for the evening kickoff. You’ll have the dust of the savannah on your boots and a camera full of memories.
