Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The hike is considered moderate. It involves some steep and narrow paths which can get slippery after rain, but it is manageable for anyone with a basic level of fitness. The entire trek to see all three waterfalls typically takes about 3 to 4 hours, and we provide local walking sticks to help with balance.
Absolutely. The Nile in Jinja is one of the safest places for beginners because the water is warm and the pools after the rapids are very deep. You will have a professional guide in your boat, and a team of safety kayakers follows every group to assist anyone who ends up in the water.
For Rafting: Lightweight shorts and a T-shirt (quick-dry material is best), plenty of waterproof sunscreen, and a change of clothes.
For Sipi Falls: Sturdy hiking boots or sneakers with a good grip, a rain poncho (even in the dry season, the waterfall mist is heavy), and a light sweater for the cooler mountain evenings.
For the Coffee Tour: A hat and long trousers to protect against sun and insects.
This itinerary is great year-round, but the best conditions are during the dry seasons: June to August and December to February. During these months, the hiking trails at Sipi are less muddy, and the sunny weather is perfect for white-water rafting.
Most travelers will need a tourist visa. Uganda has moved to an Electronic Visa (e-Visa) system, and you must apply online at the official Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration website before you arrive. If you also plan to visit Rwanda or Kenya, consider the East Africa Tourist Visa.
This specific trip focuses on adventure and landscapes rather than traditional “Big Five” game drives. However, you will see plenty of birdlife (over 300 species in Sipi), monkeys in the Mabira forest, and unique flora on the slopes of Mt. Elgon.
Yes, the plunge pools at the bottom of the falls are generally safe for a quick dip! Your guide will point out the best spots where the current is gentle and the water is deep enough.
