Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Central Serengeti National Park (Seronera)

  • Drive Time: 6 to 7 hours (including scenic transit through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area).
  • Meals: Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Mid-range tented camp or luxury lodge in Central Serengeti.

Your safari begins early in the morning with a pickup from your hotel or airport in Arusha. As you drive toward the Serengeti, the route takes you up and over the spectacular Great Rift Valley escarpment, passing through the mist-covered rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation rim. You will catch a breathtaking, panoramic glimpse of the Crater floor before continuing down into the sweeping, infinite savannah of the Serengeti.

Arrive at the Serengeti’s Seronera Valley in time for a picnic lunch. The Central Serengeti is globally renowned for its exceptional big cat populations. Spend the afternoon embarking on your first exhilarating game drive along the Seronera River lines, searching for prides of lions resting on granite kopjes, cheetahs scanning the plains, and elusive leopards draped over acacia branches. As the sun sets over the endless horizon, head to your lodge or tented camp for a warm dinner around the campfire.

Day 2: Morning in the Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

  • Drive Time: 3 to 4 hours (game drive en route).
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Safari lodge perched on the Ngorongoro Crater Rim or in nearby Karatu.

Wake up to the crisp morning sounds of the African bush. Following a quick coffee and breakfast, head out for a golden-hour morning game drive. Predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas are highly active during these cooler hours before the African sun heats the plains. You may also encounter massive herds of elephants, towering giraffes, hippos wallowing in pools, and hundreds of bird species.

After lunch, begin a slow, en-route game drive out of the Serengeti toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The transition from flat plains to lush highland forest is spectacular. Arrive at your accommodation on the crater rim or the immediate highlands in the late afternoon, where you will enjoy cooler highland temperatures, sweeping views, a hot dinner, and a good night’s rest ahead of tomorrow’s crater descent.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Floor Exploration to Arusha

  • Drive Time: 3 hours back to Arusha from the crater area.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
  • Drop-off: Arusha town or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Following an early breakfast, descend 600 meters (2,000 feet) down the steep tracks onto the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater—a massive, unbroken volcanic caldera often referred to as Africa’s “Garden of Eden.” Because of its natural, enclosed walls, the crater forms a self-sustaining ecosystem hosting over 30,000 large mammals.

This is your best chance to spot the complete Big Five in a single morning, including the highly endangered and heavily protected Black Rhinoceros. Spend the morning tracking lions, huge Cape buffaloes, massive bull elephants, zebras, wildebeests, and flamingos on the soda shores of Lake Magadi. Enjoy a memorable picnic lunch by the famous hippo pool on the crater floor.

In the afternoon, ascend the crater walls and begin your return drive to Arusha, arriving before sunset. Your guide will drop you off at your designated hotel or transfer you directly to the airport for your onward flight home.
