Day 1: Arrival and Pick Up
On arrival at Entebbe Airport, meet the guide and transfer to Boma Hotel, which is the hub for the various species of birds. Meal plan: B/B
Day 2: Bird watching in Entebbe
Entebbe offers a variety of exciting birding opportunities. All the sites in this birding area are a short distance and can be easily reached. Entebbe Botanical Gardens offer superb introduction to Uganda’s bird species and are situated conveniently close to the capital and Entebbe International Airport. Other sites in Entebbe include Lutembe Beach and birds in this area include: Lesser jacana, blue-breasted bee-eater and localized Red Chested sun bird being common ones. Others include African Pygmy-goose, Hemerkop, Hadad Ibis, Crowned-crane, Long-toed Lapwing, Grey parrot Red headed lovebird, Black headed weaver, Ross’s Turaco. Return to your hotel and overnight. Day 3: Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast drive to Mpanga Forest carry out birding in this unique forest. It is accessible on superb, wide trail that offers excellent views into the canopy and the impressive tall tree atmosphere. Birds are plentiful and Mpanga forest would be a good introduction to the forest birding in Uganda. Continue to Masaka branching off to Lake Nabugabo. Day 4: Game Drive and Bird watching in Lake Mburo National Park
This is the best and in some cases the only place in Uganda to see the typically savanna bird species. Of particular interests, is the Red-faced Barbet, a scarce bird whose range is restricted to a small area in southern Uganda, eastern Rwanda and extreme north western Tanzania. In the morning carry out game drive Lake Mburo National Park.
This one place you can view Eland, Antelope, as well as Zebra, Topi, Impala, and several Acacia -associated birds. The five lakes within the park attract Hippos and a variety of water birds, while fringing swamps hide secretive papyrus specialists such as the Sitatunga Antelope and Red, Black and Yellow Papyrus Gonolek or take boat ride on one the lakes looking for species like the Brown Chested Plover, Red Faced Barbet, Southern Ground Hornbill, Papyrus Yellow Warbler, Yellow Billed Oxpecker, African Fin foot, Black Collard Barbet etc. After noon boat trip where you will view Aquatic habitats on the scenic lake side Track around Lake Mburo. The first clearing at the Lake is a good spot to look for some of the papyrus species. Lesser and Greater Swamp Warbler, White winged Warbler and Papyrus Gonolek vocalize from the papyrus and many more. Overnight stay as above, Meal plan: F/B
Day 5: Lake Mburo National Park to Kampala
Have breakfast and then drive to Kampala with a stopover at the Equator for crafts and photographs. Lunch en route and transfer to Entebbe Airport for your flight.
